PlayRadioPlay! Originated in December of 2005, Daniel Hunter
is the one and only founding member of the band. He is most commonly known for
his electronic based music. It was only after he gained popularity on myspace
that he signed a record deal with island/stolen transmission records. He signed
the deal while he was still in his senior year of high school.
Hunter, writes, performs and records all of his music on his
own. He is also known for being very in touch with his fan base; he runs his
own myspace page and sometimes will comment people back. Perhaps this is why so
many of his fans feel so close to him. He has over 9.5 million plays on his
myspace, which before his record deal made him one of the best known unsigned
artists.
On April 24th 2007, he released his first EP
entitled “The Frequency”. His new full length album entitled “Texas” will be
available on 3-25 2008. Dan, also claims that he has been straight edge since
September 28th 2004. For those of you that don’t know what ‘straight
edge’ is, google defines it has: This
means no drugs, no drinking, no smoking, and no casual sex. Also abbreviated as
sXe. This word came from Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat and is also the title of a
Minor Threat song. It also says: Straight edge (also known as sXe, and xXx)
refers to a lifestyle, a personal commitment, a philosophy, and a subculture
that is closely associated with hardcore punk music. Straight edger’s abstain
from recreational drugs, including tobacco and alcohol.
The rest of this bio
is right from Dan Hunter himself.

My Life Story
in a Nutshell
When I was 14, the summer before my freshmen year of high school, my Dad had a
heart attack and died while we were on vacation hiking in Aspen, Colorado. It
wasn't expected at all, he was young and not aware of any heart conditions. The
following year of school was hard for me. I was depressed and not making good
grades at the private school that I had attended since Kindergarden. So when I
flunked several classes, the school asked me to leave. At that point, halfway
through my freshmen year of high school, I switched to Aledo High School, a
public school outside of Fort Worth.
After my father died and I got kicked out of private school, two things
happened. I started playing music and I started doing drugs.
I didn't know anyone at AHS. I had recently started teaching myself to play
bass (the first instrument I learned). When I got to Aledo, I naturally fit in
with the other kids that played music. I started to drink a little, thinking
nothing of it. Gradually the drinking got heavier and I started smoking pot as
well. My Mom worked a lot and was also having a hard time with my father's
death, so she didn't have any idea that I was drinking or smoking. All of my
friends drank and smoked for fun, and I did too at first, but gradually I
started to develop a habit of smoking pot on my own. I smoked substantial
amounts of weed every night in my own bedroom to feel numb. After smoking so
much that I couldn't even think, I would just lay and listen to music until I feel
asleep. Not exactly a good way to live at age 15.
Eventually my Mom did catch me smoking. And in an instant I was off to rehab. I
was there for 4 months, and was forced to confront not only my drug use, but
the severe depression that had lead to it. I have to say that music was the
reason I didn't go insane there. I had a little 16 track recorder and I
recorded some of my first songs in my room late at night with a Gibson LG0
acoustic and a Shecter C4 bass.
Once I was finally out of rehab, it wasn't completely easy to stay clean. My
friends still smoked and some of them had even moved on to harder drugs in my
absence. As a result, I started to distance myself from a lot of them and make
music alone. This is when PlayRadioPlay started. After being in bands for a few
years, and becoming fed up with not being able to keep one active, I started
PlayRadioPlay. Now you all know why I'm straightedge :). I've been clean since
September 28th, 2004 and I'm now a very happy person. I've learned to channel
my emotions into music.”
